Do you have some railroad ties that you would really like to work into your landscape? There are many ways you can go about doing this depending on what you want to do. You can make something decorative or that is meant to be functional. If you have sloping hills, then you may want to make a railroad tie retaining wall.

Making a railroad tie retaining wall will be similar to creating a raised garden bed. You will need to decide where you want to build the wall and prepare the area. The best thing about railroad ties is you can stack them to make a vertical wall or stagger them to add stairs to your landscape.
The most important part of creating a railroad tie retaining wall is securing the ties to the ground. Rebar or metal pins need to be used to secure the ties. This means drilling holes through your ties with a power drill. Instructions to make a railroad tie retaining wall can be found on instructables.com here...
